Physiomesh is a partially absorbable mesh designed for hernia repair made of polypropylene and coated with polyglecaprone. It is available in a number of sizes and features a hexagonal shape. Proceed is made of polypropylene and is coated with bioabsorbable oxidized regenerated cellulose that is intended to separate the mesh from organs and tissue.

Ethicon has not been able to avoid controversy with its products, like many manufacturers of surgical mesh. Ethicon recalled a number of its Proceed Mesh units in 2005, 2010 and 2014 because of a problem with the loss of laminate coating on the mesh that would allow the mesh to come in direct contact with organs and increase the chance of adhesions and fistulas.
